Goris, a town in the southern Syunik province of Armenia, is a major junction between Yerevan, Stepanakert and the borer to Iran. This town will not show their face until you come through long winding way of approximately 260 km from Yerevan.

But, this is a destination you should not miss out if you have enough time. The history shows this town was mentioned in 8th century B.C. and humankind settled there since the Stone Age.

Similar to other towns in Armenia, this is also an excellent place to chill out by strolling, chatting with local people and exploring local houses made of fine stones, having arched windows and balconies which can be observed from avenues. One of the unique and note-worthy features of this town is its slow life; opposite to the busy city life, because of its little commercial and industrial activities, or even customized activities by local people for tourism.


In the end, you will feel like you have been truly away from the 21st century-busy life or even have been staying in a town which is back in time. At the same time, you will be able to enjoy tasting famous fruit oghi, a clear fruit vodka, containing potent mulberry and Cornelian cherry. There is a variety of homemade fruit oghi in Goris.

Something not to forget about is its surrounding of the town. Nearby the town, there is a unique cave city where humankind habited in ancient time by making habitable holes on the other bank of the river. If you have time, it can be recommended for you to trip to Tatev, a most beautiful and gorgeous monastery in Armenia.

You do not have to worry about the hotels here. There is a plenty of selections of hotels with good quality. Plus, museums and busy bar in the town allow you to enjoy your time in Goris. Undoubtedly, it is a good idea to stop by Goris as a break for the journey between Yerevan and Karabakh, which takes you more than half day.
