Lake Sevan, the largest lake in Armenia and even the Caucasus region, covering 1,360 km² (5% of Armenia’s entire area!!!), is located almost 1 hour drive away from Yerevan. It is well known to the world as one of the largest fresh-water lakes which are located at the high-altitude (1,900 m above sea level!).
Many locals visit this site to enjoy relaxing on the beaches around the lake. The most popular beach stretches for almost 2.5 km on the northern shore. You do not have to worry about your accommodation there because there are numerous hotels and other types of accommodations available for your stay; some of them are Harsnaqar Hotel and Best Western Bohemian Resort.It is also probably only place in Armenia where you can enjoy time on sandy beach. The available activities include swimming, sunbathing, jet skiing, windsurfing, sailing and of course fishing! The site also provides campgrounds and picnic areas which are especially good if you visit there for daily trip.
In addition, you should visit the monastery on the island to view the splendid scenery created by the combination of the huge natural lake and beautiful architecture which has been existing since B.C. 874.
It is very accessible from Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia via highway and railway connections. Also, due the popularity of this site as a tourist destination, you can easily find restaurants, bars and many other facilities on this site.
